This is now clearly a historical tipping point. We are either headed toward 1), a much, much better world, or 2), an apocalyptic WWIII.
Since I’ve always been a Silo Half Full kind of guy, I honestly think Option 1 is attainable. We, meaning all humanity, must view this as opportunity, even through our anguish. Good happens, sometimes as a direct result of evil.
But just so you know this is still actually me writing this post, hell, yes, Donald Trump bears responsibility for much of this tragedy.
Putin played him. Trump then divided America and verbally (to the extent that he can verbalize) assailed our NATO allies and threatened to cut American funding.
That gave Putin the impetus to finally do what he has wanted to do for two decades. He figured NATO was hopelessly fractured and feckless.
He figured wrong. But that miscalculation, fueled by Trump’s ignorance, arrogance, greed, narcissism and incompetence, is why we are where we are when we are.

I would add an addendum: Why is what you wrote about Putin/ Trump so hard to grasp? We have, to quote my late mother, “molly-coddled” this guy for 4 years and we then expect he won’t try to pull something? HUH?
Sadly, I don’t think we have the resolve of the Greatest Generation to make the sacrifices necessary to break on through to the other side. We are the generation of entitled whiners.
