The pointless prejudice makes no sense and knows no bounds. A transgender high school girl at Harrison Central High School in Mississippi was grilled by her female principal about what she planned to wear to her upcoming graduation. The student replied that she would wear a white dress and heels under her graduation gown. Wrong, the principal responded. You will wear “boys’ clothes,” or you will be barred from the ceremony.
The student and her family appealed to a federal judge. The judge sided with the principal.
Why? Based on what, legally or ethically?
Understand, the student has attended this high school as a girl for four years. She has been a solid student and is graduating in good standing. She has not sought to be a disruption. She says that until now she has been treated well. Earlier this Spring, she attended prom wearing a dress. Nobody cared.
Why now? Toward what end? To accomplish what?
Increasingly, in so many of these wild-eyed culture wars, The Cruelty IS The Point. Meaningless meanness, pretty much just for the hell of it. Now reinforced by our federal judicial system.
America the Beautiful?
