The man running the show won’t be on the stage. Or even in the same city. That would seem to render Wednesday night’s GOP presidential candidates’ debate in Milwaukee not only toothless but pointless.
His absence is larger than his rivals’ presence. He has already won the debate without having to debate. “But enough about me. Let’s talk more about me.” Cynical, dishonest and cowardly though it may be, Trump’s “ring” strategy is unassailable. Stay off the ropes and out of the corners and clinches.
They can’t touch him Wednesday night.
Thursday in Atlanta could be a different matter.
