Welcome to the circus, Wemby. And, remember, this is just the tip of the Spears. But you’re at least 7-3, so always remember to stay above the thunderheads. And stay above the dunderheads, too, for that matter.
With one glaring exception, the Cowboys’ lineup looks set. But we’re all still PTSD after watching Brett Maher miss five PATs in last season’s playoffs. Enter kicker Brandon Aubrey, whom the ‘Boys signed Thursday to compete with Tristan Vizcaino at training camp. Aubrey sparkled in two seasons with the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions. Impressive for a former soccer at Notre Dame who did not play college football.
For now, I’ll leave it at this. The more the NFL cozies up to the gambling industry, the closer it gets to losing the farm. This is not “business expansion.” This is reckless greed.
Saddened to learn of the passing of former NFL linebacker and number two overall draft pick Johnie Cooks, who died Thursday of undisclosed cause at the age of 64. After a stellar college career at Mississippi State, Cooks was selected by the Colts in 1982 and was a holy terror in Baltimore for six seasons. He later got a Super Bowl ring when his 1990 Giants beat the Bills in SB XXV. RIP.
