In the end, the Rams got their rings. They got up from the table after their “all-in” season after raking in all the chips, and then the lit up the other guys’ cigars.
At the end, the Rams were the dealers, and they won a game of dealer’s choice. They won at their game. They won at their house, playing their way. The Rams won by being the Rams.
Donald. Miller. Whitworth. McVay.
And Stafford.
And, finally, Kupp.
And as spectators, we won. Our last look at The Great Game for the next six months capped the most exciting postseason in NFL history and the greatest 21-game stretch a receiver ever recorded.
And then, with apologies to Elway and the ’86 Broncos, we saw The Drive.
And we also may have glimpsed The Future. The Bengals wake up on Valentine’s Day with their hearts in pieces. But that will not be Burrow’s last romance.
This is going to be a bumpy offseason for the NFL. The term “class action” is ominous. As is “discovery.” Certainly, there are ugly things the league would prefer to leave undiscovered.
But I just read that the Chiefs and Bills are the early ’22 betting favorites.
And we will eagerly let it all ride again. Because The Game is just too damn good.
