No, the sky is not falling in Dallas, but there is cause for concern. A glaring lack of maturity was on full display Sunday at Lambeau. The Cowboys should have boat-raced the Packers. Dallas’s roster is vastly superior to the Packers’. But there it is. Green Bay 31, Dallas 28 in OT. For all the gushing we as fans do about the Cowboys’ defense, Dallas can’t stop the run. And if you can’t stop the run, you can’t win in the playoffs. Can’t match up with the Eagles. Can’t match up with the 49ers. Maybe can’t match up with the Vikings. We’ll find out about that last bit of speculation next Sunday in Minneapolis. Oh, and Cowboy receivers are sloppy route-runners. Yeah, I’d make an all-out push to sign OBJ.
This is not fair. But it is what it is. I’ll promise you that Sunday’s loss at Lambeau got filed away in a particularly dark part of Lil’ Abner’s brain. Keep your head on a swivel, McCarthy.
First, Kirk Cousins tried like hell—unsuccessfully—to keep his team from winning in Buffalo. But then Josh Allen succeeded in keeping his team from winning in Buffalo. Two takeaways from what was the wackiest game in recent NFL history: 1) Overlook the Vikings at your own peril. And. 2), We might wanna hold off on planning that Super Bowl parade in Buffalo.
The Bucs are 5-5 after giving the Seahawks a German lesson. And Tampa Bay will now go on to win the NFC South by four games. Run the damn ball!
Fast forward to a month from now. The two teams nobody will want any part of will be the 49ers and the Ravens.
I’m genuinely conflicted about the Jeff Saturday hiring in Indy. Saturday is a wonderful person, and I have no doubt that he is an effective leader of men. But I understand the frustration—even outrage—expressed by veteran career “lifer” coaches. Just consider this, coaches turned broadcasting pundits. A lot of you were not fully, formally and traditionally “qualified” when you got your big media opportunity. I say give Saturday a chance. One more thing. Who is more “formally” qualified to be an NFL head coach? Saturday? Or Josh McDaniels? And who schooled whom Sunday?
Somebody please come to Derek Carr’s aid. I’m genuinely concerned about him.
The Michigan Wolverines are 10-0. And it doesn’t look like a fluky 10-0 to me.
Look at the current college football landscape. Still think we need a 12-team playoff? The list of teams who have a legitimate shot to win in all is about six deep. As it is every year.
Former Washington State football coach Nick Rolovich has filed suit against the university for firing him after he refused to get a COVID vaccination. My position? STFU. The school had every right to fire you, and you stubbornly failed to protect your players and others in your program. Go away.
