Yeah, I’m a stickler for due process. But it’s impossible to imagine Chris Beard ever coaching another game at Texas. Finis. We don’t yet know all the facts. But what we do know is disgusting, and disqualifies Beard from any position of leadership.
All we can do is pray for Mike Leach. Clearly, this is not a good situation. Love and support to the family.
Let’s put the Cowboys’ flirtation with OBJ on the back-burner for now. That may or may not work out, and I’m fine either way. But I am all in on Monday’s acquisition of veteran receiver T.Y. Hilton. That’s a rock-solid move. Hilton has been one of the NFL’s most professional, consistent and smart receivers for the past decade. He will be a great option for Dak, and will be a steady and popular veteran locker room presence. Thumbs up.
Still, that doesn’t take the sting out of the news that right tackle Terence Steele has been lost for the season after getting his knee caved in during Sunday’s comeback win over the Texans. This is a big deal. Steele has been by far the Cowboys’ most consistent offensive lineman. Injuries are piling up in Big D.
I thought Desmond Ridder from Cincinnati was the most road-ready rookie quarterback available in last Spring’s NFL Draft. Ridder was a four-year starter for the Bearcats. He’s big, strong, mature and played in a lot of high-pressure games in college. Atlanta selected him in the third round and he immediately climbed to the Falcons’ backup QB role behind Marcus Mariota. Now that Mariota has flamed out (and has an injured knee) Falcons coach Arthur Smith has thrown the keys to the rookie for the rest of the season. Yep. The “N” in NFL often stands for “next.”
Playing QB is all about leadership and toughness. The Jets’ Mike White already owns that locker room. That team has not yet arrived, but its future is very bright. The same can be said for the Lions, whom the Jets play Sunday in what has become a very big game.
It’s no secret that I’m not in any way a Kyler Murray fan. But I hated to see him go down with an apparent ACL tear on a non-contact play early in the Cardinals’ Monday night loss to the Patriots. Wishing him a complete recovery.
The Cardinals play the Broncos Sunday in the Underachiever Bowl. No Murray, obviously, and Denver’s Russell Wilson is in the concussion protocol following a head injury he suffered in last week’s loss to the Chiefs. I can probably skip that one.
The Patriots are 7-6. Which is amazing given the fact that roster is not worth a bucket of warm spit. In many ways, this is one of The Hoodie’s most impressive coaching jobs.
Yeah. I could see the Chargers and a healthy Justin Herbert getting hot over the final month of the season and getting into the playoffs. Unless their head coach persists in making stupid in-game decisions.
And, yes, I can be fickle. Tua is now fading fast. The Bills will waste the Dolphins Saturday in Buffalo.
The league’s most physically and mentally tough team? The Niners. Not close. And they are going to get Deebo back before the end of the regular season. You don’t want any part of them.
Three in a row for the Spurs? When’s the parade?
