Let’s hoop it up!
Connecticut and Florida Atlantic are already headed for Houston and next weekend’s Final Four. The other two berths will be filled today with Elite Eight games pitting Texas against Miami and San Diego State vs. Creighton.
The Longhorns will be looking to get back to the Final Four for the first time in 20 years.
Connecticut was dominant Saturday night in blowing out Gonzaga by 28 points. The Huskies have won each of their four tournament games by at least 15 points and are plus-90 overall against those four opponents. UConn has been devastating.
Florida Atlantic has been focused. The Owls went on a 15-1 second half run to upset third-seeded Kansas State 79-76. FAU becomes the first 9-seed to reach the Final Four since Wichita State did it a decade ago.
In the women’s tournament, adios Connecticut after last night’s loss to Ohio State. Wow!
I was delighted to learn that future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner is headed back to Seattle after his one-year detour with the Rams. Bobby Wagner needs to play for the Seahawks. And, yeah, I’ll work in a little golf today. That match play thing is a nice change of pace. Thirty-six holes today in Austin, and I’m pulling for a Scheffler-McIlroy final!
