As a young man myself, I was for the young quarterbacks. Damn. But the event did fund 10.26 million free meals for charity.
My heart sagged when I learned of the passing of Marion Barber III. Football fans loved him. I’m a football fan. So, I loved him. He played the game the way it’s supposed to be played. I’m unfamiliar with all the details, but it’s my understanding Marion struggled personally after his retirement from the NFL in 2012. I wish him rest and peace.
Titans rookie WR Treylon Burks says he’s dealing with an issue as he transitions to the NFL. Burks has declined to disclose the nature of the issue, but says it is impacting his performance at the Titans’ OTAs. We do know Burks has a breathing problem that has required periodic use of an inhaler during workouts. I thought the former Arkansas star was the most intriguing receiver available in the recent draft, and I wish him the very best.
Football players are human beings. And they hurt and bleed like human beings. Comfort and support to now former Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt, who has retired from the NFL after sitting out last season to mourn the death of his brother. We should all remember that every single person we encounter is hurting in one way or another.
Kyler Murray showed up for the Cardinals’ OTA session Wednesday. News is defined as deviation from the norm. That was deviation from the norm. So that was news. Have I mentioned in the last ten minutes that I am completely out on Kyler Murray, both as a player and a professional? Murray made no promises about Thursday.
Think the Baker Mayfield melodrama has died down? Just wait.
How’s this for a tease? I think the Jon Gruden lawsuit will ultimately prove job-threatening for Roger Goodell. And I suspect the Jolly Roger knows that.
Baseball superstar Mike Trout says he may be done with being a fantasy football commissioner. Is that ever a fun job for ANYONE? Trout’s bottom line? “Every commissioner I know always gets booed.”
How’s this for chutzpah? The Yankees’ Josh Donaldson says he’s hurt that the team didn’t support him after he was given a one-game MLB suspension for directing a racist remark to White Sox star Tim Anderson that also was offensive to the family of the late Jackie Robinson. You’re hurt that the team didn’t rally to your aid, Donaldson? Really? You’re lucky you didn’t get your ass kicked over by the water cooler. And that’s still possible.
Verlander is back on the horse. And that four run Houston rally in the ninth was nice, too! So, Astros fans are breathing again.
Let’s go, Team Ukraine!
Madden is going to be on the cover of Madden. That seems about right to me.
Oh, yeah. I almost forgot. Game One of The Finals tonight. I’ll take the Dubs at home.
