The Cowboys have done a very nice job. Period.
After restructuring the contracts of five big-money veterans, and trading for CB Stephon Gilmore and WR Brandin Cooks, Dallas looks good heading into the draft and OTAs.
Sunday’s deal brought veteran receiver Cooks into the fold in exchange for sending Houston a fifth-round draft pick this year and a sixth-rounder in 2024.
This is a very significant pick-up, in my view. Cooks is a pro, and he will fit in smoothly with C.J. Lamb and Michael Gallup.
Cooks is set to make $18 million in guaranteed salary this year, but the Texans will pay $6 million of that.
Nicely done, Dallas.
Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil is now the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL after signing a three-year, $75 million dollar extension. He’ll be the blind-side protector for whichever QB Houston takes in the draft. The 28-year-old Tunsil is a three-time Pro Bowler, and his pass-protection stats are unassailable. He allowed only one sack in 2022. But he commits way too many false start/procedure penalties, and is often responsible for Texans fans throwing objects at their televisions.
Carolina is a great landing spot for WR Adam Thielen, who was recently released by the Vikings after ten seasons. Thielen on Sunday signed a three-year deal with the Panthers. He leaves Minnesota as the Vikings third-ranked all-time receiver, behind only Cris Carter and Randy Moss.
So, it wasn’t just a bad dream, as I had hoped. Jose Altuve really did break his right thumb in that WBC quarterfinal game against Team USA. He really is going to need surgery. He really is going to miss at least half of the Astros’ season, and that’s best case. I’ll just go out in the yard and mumble…
Forgive me if I’m not all excited about Team USA reaching the WBC Final against either Japan or Mexico.
I was very impressed by Xavier’s 84-73 tournament win over Pitt that sent the Musketeers to the Sweet 16. The Longhorns will have their hands full Friday.
Oh…one more thing. Buh-bye, Baylah. You still nasty!
