First, Lamar. Whether somebody else talked some sense into him or he finally talked some sense into himself, it got done. And that’s good for everybody. Baltimore is by far the best place for Lamar Jackson, and Lamar Jackson is by far the best quarterback for the Ravens.
Now. You never known on Draft Night how these things will ultimately play out. But the Texans certainly appear to have played their hand expertly. Will Anderson is as close to “can’t miss” as any player in that draft. And despite that late “black ops” effort to discredit him, C.J. Stroud checks all the boxes at QB. All of them. And he’ll have Case Keenum to show him the ropes. Nice job, DeMeco and Caserio.
It wasn’t sexy, but it was the right decision. I’m talking about the Cowboys. That team’s one glaring weakness is inability to stop the run. Enter former Michigan run-plugger Mazi Smith. That will go a long way toward fixing that problem.
But now the Cowboys and everybody else in the NFC East have a brand new problem, or pair of problems. The Eagles got BOTH of those Georgia studs, DT Jalen Carter and Uber OLB Nolan Smith. Ouch!
Bijan to the Falcons. That’s a good fit, in my view. Arthur Smith will know exactly what to do with that rare talent.
Kudos to the Colts. No guts, no glory. True, Anthony Richardson could conceivably wind up a tight end. He also could conceivably could wind up fifteen years from now wearing a gold jacket as a HOF QB. That’s the dangedest athlete to ever play the position. Hell, yes, I’da gone for it, and without a moment’s hesitation.
This Will Levis thing is weird, to say the least. It was just two days ago that he was the betting favorite to be the #2 overall selection. Instead, he fell completely out of the first round. As we say in journalism, the issue appears to be “accuracy, accuracy, accuracy.” Because that is certainly a big ol’ arm. Let’s see what happens tonight
